ANSELM KIEFER A PALAZZO DUCALE
Contemporary art enters the Doge's Palace for the exhibition that aims to reflect on the relationship of today's art with museums, a biennial exhibition of the Venice Civic Museums Foundation
Palazzo Ducale will host an installation by the artist Anselm Kiefer.
The German artist's project will be conceived specifically for the headquarters of the Serenissima, in dialogue with the sixteenth-century decoration of the room. The cycle of Kiefer's paintings will open a close comparison with the thirty-nine monumental canvases on the ceiling of the Sala dello Scrutinio and more generally with the heroic value of the entire decorative apparatus of the Palazzo.
Anselm Kiefer is one of the greatest artists and is known for his deep, cultured and articulated visual research, which includes vast allusions to literature, philosophy and history, in a reflection aimed at the existential dimension. In particular, here, it is inspired by the thought of Andrea Emo, a philosopher born in the early twentieth century from a Venetian family of noble origins. Starting from a profound consideration of the millennial history of Venice, he will offer a personal interpretation of humanity.
The exhibition is linked to the celebrations for the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venice and will be set up with the seal of a title taken from the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo: "These writings, when burned, will finally give some light". The cycle of paintings underlines the role of contemporary art in reflecting on universal themes, which transcends Venice to open up to current philosophical visions.
